A check-up is an assessment, not a start date
The AAO recommends an initial orthodontic check-up no later than age seven. Its children's guide explains that a mix of baby and permanent teeth can provide information about development. This is an assessment recommendation, not a statement that braces should begin at that age or that every child needs treatment.
